Inclusion vs. Disproportionality

When society honors diversity, then we erase biases in others and ourselves. People advance when they acknowledge what they think, say, do,. and need to do better. Individuals move forward with reflection. Some people are fans of that and some are not happy when changes occur. Consequently, inclusion vs. disproportionality must occur. If we delete diverse perspectives, skewed messages are heard from the disproportionate contributions of select individuals. We hurt and limit the potentials of others with preconceived thoughts, beliefs, and actions. Conversely, diverse voices and accepting ears yield a chorus of contributions. No group or individual can, nor should be allowed to marginalize and/or limit any person’s future potential based on his or her disability label, culture, race, socioeconomic status, gender identity, sexual preference, or place of birth. Equity is not the same as equality. Yet equity offers inclusion. When society embraces differences, then disproportionality in schools and workplaces are erased. Together we learn; together we grow. Tomorrow belongs to everyone. Inclusion is never an option.
