W-6. Literacy & Math Skills in Inclusion Classrooms

Grade Levels: K-2, 3-5, 6-8
Length: 3-6 Hours

Reading, wRiting, and aRithmetic were long considered the 3Rs of primary classrooms. Identifying sight words, contextual clues and vocabulary, reading or writing a short story, novel, or poem, creating dynamic sentences, paragraphs, and essays, or figuring out the degrees of missing angles in triangles or parallelograms and the greatest common factor of two numbers all require good teaching practices that connect the 3Rs to the students in motivating ways. Infuse literacy and numeracy objectives to develop student skills with fluency, word recognition and decoding, phonemic awareness, comprehension, number sense, patterns, procedures, algebraic reasoning, data analysis, probability, and spatial and quantitative problems across many genres, grades, and interdisciplinary lessons.
